Testimonials
I have been fishing with Big Fish Charters at Lake Powell five times, each consisting of three full fishing days, during the summer, fall, winter and spring, and have caught many nice stripers from 3 to 5 pounds. After the three of us had caught 30 stripers on a typical day, we would target small and large mouth bass, crappie, walleye, and catfish. Lar, the captain, supplied all the fishing gear, expertise, boat, fuel, vehicle, and lodging. All I had to do was show up with personal gear. We kept the stripers and made quick work of them at the modern, Lake Powell fish station. Lar knows every canyon where fish hang out at Lake Powell. If he couldn’t locate fish in spot number 1, he would quickly move to another location in his 40-mph fishing boat. He trolls for stripers using his secret weapon crank baits and looks for under water boils (buffalos) and surface boils that become exciting very quickly. He has a bag of tricks to catch anything Lake Powell has to offer that seems endless. I give Lar 5 stars for his expertise, equipment, kindness, and patience with rookies like me.
AlanI have utilize Larry’s guiding services over the last several years with great pleasure. I always enjoy being on the water with Larry and his friends & clients fishing and enjoying the beautiful scenery that Lake Powell has to offer. I always look forward to the pleasant atmosphere and to the opportunity to catch a healthy striper and a bonus walleye while visiting Lake Powell. Their services and the atmosphere are always relaxing and enjoyable. It’s always a beautiful place and a wonderful experience when you want to step away from the world and escape the demands of life. Will keep going back again and again. Keep a tight line!
DanLake Powell never disappoints me in anyway. The sheer unmatched beauty of its majestic canyons and the clarity of its waters. We have always enjoyed being there weather for sightseeing or the pursuit of its many species of fish. We have used Big Fish Outfitters in the past to access all that Lake Powell has to offer. It’s always a reward when you pursue stripers and we have even caught many a walleye, smallmouth bass, Crappie and some very large channel catfish. We always look forward to our next trip.
WayneIf you are looking for a first class adventure on Lake Powell, Larry is your man! Through his multiple years of fishing and touring Lake Powell, he is able to share his knowledge and love for the area. He has a passion for the outdoors that translates into a top notch experience. His passion, knowledge and quality gear set you up for a successful trip! I have had the privilege to experience this firsthand, and I can’t wait until my next trip with Larry!
JasonLarry took me and Alan out in February. We’d wake up and he’d know where to go and if that was bad which wasn’t common he’d have another spot in mind. When it came to the setup he had it ready and was willing to help change it if it wasn’t working. I was amazed at how fun it was when he’d spot a boil (a group of stripers) and we would drop down and catch them like crazy. The chairs posed no problems to our back leaving us to focus on fishing alone. And the boat had plenty of room for all of the items we had. He was able to point out landmarks of interest as we rocketed by the amazing scenery. Every day we got another 3 gallons worth of filets. I can now attest to the amazing taste of strippers. We went for 3 days and caught over 30 stripers a day. Not to mention the huge crappies and bass. The experience of fishing was unlike anything I’d done and was an amazing time.
CharlesAs a new guide with buckets of experience on Lake Powell, we coordinated a Monday/10June24 day out of Bullfrog. Weather forecast was excellent for mid-june. High 92 degrees but overcast all day. Winds light. Can’t beat that! My/our target quarry - walleye. We launched before sunrise, focusing exclusively on walleye, but none to be found. By midmorn, we switched over to stripers. A few possible schools found, but no biters on jigs, spoons, or whatever we offered, except a solo young striper did gulp down a worm rig. Overall, did not find stripers, either. Continuing north out of Bullfrog & into the canyons, we switched over to casting. BINGO!! We spent the rest of the day casting, and catching smb. Things even quickly improved when Larry suggested top water lures. Nothing much better than a top water bite. We caught numerous smb, having a great time. Larry is a superb guide with excellent gear. Though no walleye, once the sun got high, they went deep, & Larry knew to switch tactics. He’s very easy to get along with, continually evaluates the conditions, and will find a way to put you on fish. I heartily recommend his guide service.
SteveI have fished with Larry over the years many times. Lake Powell is always a favorite destination. We have had so much fun and great success. The best equipment and comfort is a priority. One trip my brother JR and I went to Powell with Larry and in 3 days of fishing we caught over 450 Stripers plus Walleye,Smallmouth, and Largemouth Bass.Give it a try. You will have a great time and learn about how to fish Lake Powell.
RogerWe had a fantastic day fishing for striped bass with Larry. We’ve used other fishing guides on Lake Powell. But, Larry is the best! We hoped to see a lot of striper action and he made it happen with trolling and jigging. Larry has the gear, knows the locations and techniques to needed to land bass. He happily exceeded our expectations for the day. Bonus, he took the extra time to get us on some walleye which we’ve always wanted too. Great day, great value, great memories!
William & SonsLarry was an amazing guide! My dad and I are from Park City area and come down to Powell to fish all the time. He taught us so much and can't wait to get back down. He's definitely worth it especially if you're new to lake Powell, he even showed us dinosaur tracks! Thank you so much Larry, we had a great time!
Miles & RussFished for 2 days in November 2024 with Larry and had a great time. We caught almost 100 stripers as well as several walleye, large mouth bass and crappie. We could have caught more stripers but after the first 50 or so asked Larry to focus on the harder to find Walleye. Larry is a great guy, and a great guide. He knows Lake Powell like the back of his hand and knows the fish just as well. He knew exactly where to go and how to fish for maximum catch. Larry is very helpful and enjoyable to be with. We also stayed in his fish camp in Ticaboo, it was comfortable and more than adequate for our 3 night stay. I have fished charters all over the US, Canada, and Mexico and can say Larry ranks with the best, highly recommended!
Rob HincheeLarry, I just want thank you for a trip of a lifetime.what fun to catch one fish right after another you sure seem to just know where the big ones are,and the scenery was fantastic.
Sam CI booked Larry at Bigfishchartersutah.com for two days in late March. I brought my kids and Larry was incredibly accommodating. We caught a million fish, on everything from trolling to jigging spoons to casting plastics at rocky shorelines. The kids caught stripers, big walleye, and smallmouth bass. Larry is a fishy guy and knew just where to find them and how to put them in the boat! He coached my kids through the whole process, from how to set out the trolling plugs to keeping tension on the line while jigging then setting the hook hard! I feel like Larry went above and beyond to show us a good time. We went and looked at dinosaur tracks, stopped to use the bathroom whenever the kids needed, and he took us sight-seeing in narrow slot canyons with beautiful vistas. He helped us create wonderful memories that we will have forever, and we brought home a cooler of fillets for killer fish fish tacos. I was impressed with his knowledge, patience and desire to teach and help my kids become better fishermen. I consider it some of the best money I have ever spent and will be booking him again.

I’ve been fishing with Larry at Lake Powell three times and I can’t get enough of it. I like the fact that you can catch a variety of fish species at Lake Powell. Whether it be stripers, walleye, small and large mouth bass or crappie, Larry has found them all and helped us have a good time. His boat is equipped with all the gear to match the technique that is producing at the time. He has poles set up for trolling, jigging, or fishing on the surface. The first time I went with Larry was late in the year when the water temperature had cooled and we had great success trolling for stripers. Just to break up the day, we stopped and went near the rocky shoreline and successfully jigged for crappie. Another time late in the day, upon noticing the action on the surface we cast out floating lures to entice strikes from the boiling stripers. What a whoot that is. Last time I was with Larry was earlier in the fall when the water temperature was warmer, we found stripers by jigging deep in the back of canyons. Lake Powell is such a beautiful place to be and boating out to the chosen destination is worth it even before you catch any fish.
